At an altitude of 102 m, the Serra de Santa Helena, located in one of the foothills of the Serra de Montemuro, offers a magnificent viewpoint over the Vale do Varosa, the cities of Tarouca, Lamego and Vila Real and the Serras do Marão, das Meadas and from the Star. The horizon is dotted with houses and vegetation, enclosing a surprising view over the entire valley and mountains.
Here, in a bucolic environment, visitors will find a picnic area where it is worth enjoying a few moments of rest. It is also possible to practice paragliding, climbing and other extreme sports, such as downhill, mountain biking and motocross.
In the cold months, it is common to find the mountains covered in white due to snowfall, giving a stunning landscape.
The pilgrimage of Saint Helena takes place in July and lasts nine days, with its high point on the second Sunday of this month, with a mass normally presided over by the Bishop of the Diocese of Lamego, followed by the Blessing of the Fields and the Profession of Goodbye.
