Via Romana da Ereira
Section of the Roman road

Section of the Roman road (2nd and 4th century) that connected (secondary branch) between the road junction in Viseu and the road from Lisbon/Braga. The aim of revitalizing this imposing paved section was to make the visit and interpretation more accessible to the general public. This archaeological remains is extremely important as it testifies not only to the Roman occupation of our territory, but also allows us to reconstruct routes and routes used by the Romans. This way passed armies and civilians. Along 230 meters of extension it is possible to identify the techniques used by the Romans in the construction of roads.

This section belonged to a secondary branch, diverticulum, of the main road that joined Olissipo to Bracara, being related to the need to dispose of metal products exploited not only in the municipalities of Viseu and Vouzela (tin) but also those that were exploited in this region of the Carved (lead, silver and copper), especially from the 3rd century onwards (Vaz, 1997, p. 398). The route, which came from Viseu, the seat of a civitas, followed the left bank of the Vouga, passed in the neighboring municipality of Oliveira de Frades through Reigoso, Feira, Ponte, Benfeitas, Pisco and then entered the municipality of Sever do Vouga passing through Ereira , Carved, Weasels, then bending southwards until you reach Cabeço do Vouga, thus always staying on the same bank of the river. Around Cabeço do Vouga you reached the road that connected Olisipo to Bracara.
