The Raid Alvalade Porto Covo began in 1999 with around 80 participants.

Currently, there are around three thousand people who travel the 70-kilometre trails that connect the two locations.

The Raid Alvalade de Porto Covo is organized by Futebol Club Alvaladense and is now considered the biggest mountain bike event in the country and offers two routes, 70 km and 120 km.

It is a family event, in which many couples take the route side by side and often with their children.

Participants leave the parish of Alvalade, municipality of Santiago do Cacém, early in the morning, in groups or individually, and begin an adventure that takes them along unique trails, between rice paddies, the Campilhas Dam and Serra do Cercal.

After a solid and liquid supply near the Campilhas dam, which also serves as a socializing moment, the daring athletes begin the part on the plains that takes them to Porto Covo, with the Pessegueiro Island right next door, in the municipality of Sines. Arriving at the mythical Largo Marquês de Pombal in Porto Côvo is always a moment of celebration awaited by many family and friends.

After refueling in Porto Côvo, the best prepared to return to Alvalade, thus completing 120 km.
