Considered the largest sanctuary in the Alto Douro Vinhateiro, it is made up of a set of small chapels that rise along the hill, the oldest of which date back to the 16th century. In the last decades of the 16th century, the Ermo was inhabited by Friar Gaspar da Piedade who, after having traveled through the city of Rome and Palestine, returned and built a chapel where he deposited a relic he brought from the East, a bone from the arm of St. Jeronimo. The various archaeological remains found at the site testify to the existence of human occupation at least since the pre-Roman period.
The São Salvador do Mundo viewpoint is located on the left bank of the Douro River in the heart of the Douro Demarcated Region, an area classified as World Cultural Heritage. The site consists of an imposing granite cone with an altitude of 493 meters and a steep slope towards the river.
This is one of the most famous Viewpoints in the Douro
