Church of the Compassion
Old church dedicated to the Holy Spirit

The foundation of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Bragança must date back to the year 1518 and “it was founded on a church that had been dedicated to the Holy Spirit” (which gave its name to the street). The temple was rebuilt in 1539, to serve as a church of the Compassion.

At the end of the century In the 17th century, the high altar would be equipped with a valuable Mannerist altarpiece (with the central figure Nossa Senhora da Misericórdia). In an adjacent chapel, you can admire a beautiful image of Senhor dos Passos, from the end of the century. XVIII.

The border tile covering dates from the second half of the 19th century. XIX.
