It is the ex-libris of the village, being a monument that stands out for its artistic value and the architectural and urban complex in which it is inserted.
Analyzing the delimitation plan of the Jewry of Castelo de Vide, it can be concluded that the fountain was integrated in that neighborhood, which existed since the 16th century. XIV to century. XV. The fountain was a focus of radial development of the streets that developed around it, deducing that it was built in the 17th century. XVI, in the reign of D. João III, although it is also likely that its construction is from several times, in which in the beginning there was only one source.
The shape of the main tank is rectangular and delimited by granite slabs arranged vertically, from which six marble columns emerge that support a pyramidal roof that ends in a pine cone. At the center of the tank stands a discoid body with four symmetrical spouts and above this, another parallelepiped, decorated with the Coat of Arms of Portugal and the Council and with two figures of children. This set is topped off by a pine cone in the shape of an acanthus or tulip flower.
Next to it, there is another tank, rectangular, intended for beasts and horses.
It should be noted that it was in Largo da Fonte da Vila that, on March 17, 1989, the President of the Republic Mário Soares uttered an important sentence: “In the name of Portugal, I want to apologize to the Jews for the persecutions that were victims in our land” .
