It was designed by architects Raul César Caldeira and Albertino Cruzeiro Galvão Roxo. With a modern design, it was inaugurated in 1954, but was destroyed by a fire in the mid-80s. The subsequent renovation works preserved some elements of the original building.
Cine-Teatro Avenida – occupies a corner of Campo da Pátria and the new Avenida do Marechal Carmona, on a plot of land with a surface area of 2,050 square meters.
The room now has a capacity of 703 people, 408 seats in the audience, 264 in the first balcony and 7 cabins with a capacity of 31 seats.
The 2nd balcony – the popular chicken coop – was removed, which allowed for the design of a multipurpose space.
A large, multi-purpose hall was also created on the 1st floor, below the audience, which lends itself to holding various exhibitions.
On this same floor, an old water-wheel was recovered, which existed before 1954, the date of inauguration of Cine-Teatro Avenida. The daughter-in-law, at the center of this multipurpose room, can be understood as an unusual element, but one that largely contributes to creating a charismatic atmosphere.
