Seda Museum
From the Animal to the Thread; From Yarn to Fabric and from Fabric to Final Product

The Museum consists of five rooms where you can understand the silk production process and learn about some of the instruments used in the traditional method of obtaining it.

Tutored by the Portuguese Association of Parents and Friends of Mentally Disabled Citizens (APPACDM) of Castelo Branco, the Silk Museum was created to make the general public aware of the history of silk production in Portugal, the life cycle of the silkworm, conventional applications and state-of-the-art technology – namely in terms of Biology and Medicine – that can be made from the use of this poorly known and, even so, priceless product.
The Museum consists of five rooms. In room one, information about silk is presented, starting from the general to the specific (APPACDM). The visit begins with a presentation of the Silk Road, sericulture in our territory, even before the formation of nationality, sericulture in Beira Interior and finally, with a chronological analysis, the sericulture activity in APPACDM.
