The name stuck with having had the honor of hosting Queen D. Maria II on a visit she made to the lands of Ribatejo. The real choice had to do with the beauty and excellent conditions provided by the palatial building, as well as with the fact that the Prime Minister at the time, Passos Manuel, was the son-in-law of the owners of the house.
It was D. Maria II who, certainly impressed by the visit to the openly liberal town, and under the influence of Passos Manuel, agreed, in 1836, to change its name from Punhete to Constância, granting it the title of Notable.
Facing the Tejo, the Palace preserves the memories of Portuguese liberalism and all the dignity and comfort that have always characterized it.
