With thirty-three years of existence, Santiagro – Agricultural and Horse Fair takes place on the last weekend of May and lasts for three or four days.
It takes place at the Parque de Feiras e Exposições de Santiago do Cacém and is currently the largest event of its kind on the Alentejo coast.
The first Santiagro was held in 1988 and since then a lot has changed, however, the essence and tradition are still present.
The Fair is known for themes related to the rural world such as agriculture, livestock, horticulture and forestry, very important sectors for the Municipality and for the Alentejo Coast, with its colloquiums, meetings and debates. It is also noted for promoting the horse and related activities, such as the gala and equestrian baptism, the teaching tests, the Horseball demonstration by the U16 National Team, and finally the show.
In a welcoming enclosure of ___ km, equipped with support infrastructure and composed of covered auditoriums, stages, riding arena, open exhibition spaces, two covered pavilions, where there are permanent exhibitions of horses, sheep, goats, cattle and birds with more than 250 animals, the multipurpose tent, for gastronomic and wine tastings, catering spaces.
Known for its quality concerts and with renowned names in the national music scene, for the typical restaurants and taverns that delight visitors.
This fair is widely known for its vitality and dynamics, assuming itself as a showcase of what is produced in the municipality and being, par excellence, a space for business opportunities.
Children are the hope for the future and Santiagro “educates” the youngest through Espaço Natura, with theatre, workshops, story time, 360º immersive cinema, shows about the environment and with the Pequenos Chefs Club. Outside the fair, children can take carriage rides, milk the goats and feed the lambs, ride a tuk-tuk, model balloons, play games and dynamics adapted to characters from the forest universe and interact with the animators – shadows that are scattered around through the enclosure.
