This trail consists of a walk through the history of the Cistercian monks who lived in the Monastery of São João de Tarouca and who traveled daily to the cultivated fields. There are about 10 kilometers between orchards and rural paths of great beauty that flood us with well-being.
The Monastery of São João de Tarouca marks the beginning of the route, but the path continues towards an old Roman bridge over the river Varosa. The riverbed accompanies us along a narrow path, full of native vegetation, where silence combines with the landscape and gives us a sense of calm.
The last part of the route crosses several apple orchards that were once the monks’ cultivation places, the bucolic atmosphere still prevails.
