The Canteiro Museum, opened in 2005, is housed in Solar Ulisses Pardal, formerly known as Solar dos Goulões. The building itself is a unique example of stonework, having been recovered and classified as a Public Interest Property in 2002.
The permanent exhibition at the Canteiro Museum – Labor do Canteiro – shows the oldest and most traditional tools used by construction sites in the course of successive operations, as well as innovations in object form, leading to their abandonment and replacement by machinery. The Museum also shows images that document practices and techniques that lead to the production of shapes or the aesthetic elaboration of stone and gives an account of the fundamental traits of the evolution of stone activity in Portugal. Also part of the Museum of Canteiro circuit, the kitchen, whose fireplace and wall cabinets, built in large-sized stone, are noteworthy, as well as the balcony of the chapel that connects the Manor to the attached chapel, currently called São Brás, where the inhabitants of the house attended religious ceremonies.
In addition to the permanent exhibition dedicated to work at the construction site, the Museum also presents several temporary exhibitions throughout the year.
