It intends to tell the story of a community that greatly contributed to the development of the city during the 16th century, its memories and the legacy it left behind. The Casa da Memória exhibits a set of objects associated with the Life Cycle, the Festivities and their Rituals.
The Casa da Memória da Presença Judaica in Castelo Branco is a tribute to the History of the Jewish People, to the ancient Jewish Community that lived in the city and contributed strongly to the commercial and economic development of the city and a tribute to the Memory of all those who were persecuted or Killed by the hand of the Inquisition.
The Museum space is divided into four distinct spaces:
Shop/Reception on Floor 0, where you can find various publications, Kosher products, information about the city, its museums and monuments.
On the same floor begins the museographic space about the foundation of the Jewry of Castelo Branco, about Jewish rituals and festivities, the Inquisition or objects of torture.
In the transition between the two floors, there is the Memorial das Vítimas Albicastrenses: There are 329 names, 329 people who were persecuted or killed for issues related to their religious beliefs.
The 1st floor is a space entirely dedicated to Albicastrenses Jewish figures who stood out in their time, both in Portugal and abroad: Amato Lusitano, Afonso de Paiva, Elias de Montalto, Moisés de Montalto or Manuel Joaquim Paiva are included in this list of Men Notable, in this space that is presented as a timeline on the Jewish presence in Portugal, until the present day. Finally, the 2nd floor has a study/research area.
