Castelo Branco Typical Orchestra
The “Ex-Libris” of Beira Baixa

The Orquestra Típica Albicastrense was founded on July 16, 1956, by the distinguished Albicastrense and great accordion artist, Eugénia Lima, according to the minutes in the respective Book of the Centro Artístico Albicastrense, sponsoring association.

Defending and disseminating the vast and rich Folklore of Beira Baixa were the objectives set out on that date and have been fully met. Its repertoire consists of the most expressive folk music of the Province of Beira Baixa, from leisure, leisure, work and pilgrimages.

The instrumentalists’ costumes are faithful copies of the Castelo Branco grandee, for the men, and Sunday costumes from Malpica do Tejo for the women. The coral costumes (men and women) are also faithful copies, some even originals of those used in the Parishes of Malpica do Tejo, Louriçal, Alcains, Monsanto da Beira, Paul, mountain and pine forest areas.

Additional notes

In 2009, the Portuguese Government granted it the status of Public Utility Association.
