Property of Public Interest.
Monumental construction with one of the largest cloisters in the country.
Inside, there is an important group of mural paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries.
According to a very ancient legend, the Virgin Mary appeared to a potter’s daughter and showed her the location of a treasure in the place where the Convento das Servas now stands.
The first stone of the Convent was laid in 1604, under the patronage of the Duke of Bragança, D. Teodósio II. In 1644 the work was completed, and the following year a community of nuns from the Convent of Chagas in Vila Viçosa came to occupy the convent.
