One of the most imposing convents in the Minho region, it was recently the subject of a restoration effort that restored the splendor of other times.
Its origins must go back to the 6th century and to Bishop S. Martinho de Dume, from the same period. However, no traces remain. In the 11th century, a Benedictine Monastery was built on the site. Currently, from the primitive construction, only a portal with three richly ornamented archivolts remains. This space, in 1425, was handed over to a new congregation, known as Lóios, having become the mother house of the congregation, in Portugal. Today it is a grand example of Manueline and Mannerist conventual architecture.
