This building is the result of a series of additions and renovations to the core of the old Town Hall, which the major remodeling and expansion started in 1849 sought to give a certain unity.
It comprises the former Hospital do Espírito Santo, which served as a post for pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela, and the former Chapel of Santa Maria, both from the 14th century. The Tower and House of the Chamber are from the 15th century and the Misericórdia Church from the 16th century. All the sides of the history of this(these) building(s) have been returned to it in our days through a rehabilitation and enhancement action.
