Located in the highest part of the village of Sertã, this building is one of the most emblematic of the entire county and its construction was completed in 1934, as the old Town Hall, located where the Artur Caldeira Ribeiro viewpoint is now, were reduced to ashes by a violent fire in 1917.
The new building was designed by the renowned architect Cassiano Branco, who left his mark on the design of the central pillars and their arches, on the central staircase and on the clock at the top of the main façade.
In this set, the Art Deco style prevails, where we recognize the geometrization of the spatial composition of the facades, the structural simplification, the clarity of volumes and the stylized and abstract character of the decorative elements, visible in the frames of the openings, in the small friezes and in the railings.
The building comprises basement, ground floor, 1st floor and attic. It is currently occupied by various municipal services.
The influence of Art Deco and European modernism became decisive from the beginning of the 1930s. Cassiano Branco is committed to several projects and this influence is very visible in the design of this building.
In addition to the Municipal Services, the building housed in the past the Judicial Court, the health delegation, the civil registry service and the land registry office.
Next to the Town Hall is a small garden, with the bust of ngelo Farinha, former Mayor.
