The Battle of Montes Claros was decisive for full independence from Portugal.
On June 17, 1665, under the command of the Marquis of Marialva, Portugal defeated the most powerful army in Europe and, thanks to this battle, Peace with Spain was secured and signed in 1668.
The Battle of Monte Claros was fundamental for that Portugal had ensured its territorial integrity and managed to reach the 21st century as a free and independent country.
