The pedestrian route “From the Monte d’Assaia Trail to the lands of D. António Barroso” runs through the rural areas of the parishes of Chavão, Carvalhas, Remelhe, Goios and Chorente and crosses the imposing Monte d’Assaia (pedestrian route in progress of certification).
A circular pedestrian route with a landscape and cultural scope, it begins in the parish of Chavão, land of legends and historical finds, as documented in its ethnographic museum. The trail starts at the Parish Church of Chavão and follows the direction of the parish of Carvalhas. Cross Monte d’Assaia along dirt paths, where you can discover the Fonte da Pegadinha and the Forno dos Mouros, and further on, the rock art of “Laje dos Sinais”. Follow Estrada da Rainha to the parish of Remelhe, home of the bishop and missionary D. António Barroso, where you can visit the Parish Church, the Chapel of S. Tiago and the house where this famous prelate was born. It continues through rural areas in the parishes of Góios and Chorente until it returns to the parish of Chavão.
Pedestrian route covering approximately 17 km with an estimated duration of 4 and a half hours.
