On April 29, 1932, the name Garcia d’Orta was given to the new garden built by the Tourism and Initiative Committee between Marvão and Mealhada roads. On May 9, 1932, the new Garden was inaugurated with the presence of the then President of the Republic, General Óscar Carmona.
In September 1951, a monument was inaugurated in honor of doctors and natural scientists from Castelo de Vide: Garcia d’Orta, Francisco Morato Roma and José António Serrano.
In 1977, a bust of Dr. P. M. Laranjo Coelho is placed in this garden by the City Council and the Portuguese Academy of History.
On February 4, 2019, on the initiative of the Group of Friends of Castelo de Vide, the sculpture “Colóquios dos Simples” by Maria Leal da Costa was inaugurated. This work was commissioned as part of the “Entre Diálogos” project, financed by the Participatory Budget of Portugal 2017 and marks the 450th anniversary of the death of the Castelovidense physician scientist.
