Located on a granite outcrop, in the parish of Pinheiros, the cave engravings of Cabeço das Pombas constitute an artistic-religious manifestation of great importance, supposedly originating in the Bronze Age, although their exact symbolism is unknown. It is believed that they were associated with a ceremonial cult.
The first phase of the engraving is supposed to have been executed in the Bronze Age, 2nd millennium BC. This sanctuary has very unusual symbolic motifs in the northwest of the peninsula.
At the center of the panel is a representation of a branch, in the center of which a face was engraved at a later time; To the right of this figure and in a later area are a set of figures that could be related to a ceremonial act. Composed of wishbones, tweezers or tongs and a rim, which could represent a container, and a figure composed of ten lines, seeming to represent flames. Still in this set, and on the right, the initials IPRM and a representation with twelve arms are inserted.
