Currently, the Administrative Services of Régie Cooperativa Basto Vida, the Services of the Social Development Division of the City Council are located at Casa Municipal da Cultura, as well as the headquarters of the Local Contract for Social Development 4th Generation (CLDS-4G) project.
The Municipal House of Culture is a 17th century building. XVIII, which underwent several changes over the centuries. It was the old Court of the Couto de Refojos de Basto and, later, the House of the Baron of Basto.
1755-1758 – Abbot Friar Francisco São José, of the Monastery of S. Miguel de Refojos, ordered the construction of the Court of Couto de Refojos e Basto.
1834 – Extinction of Religious Orders; the Court of Couto de Refojos de Basto is sold at public auction together with the Monastery and the fences of Quinta do Mosteiro, having been acquired by João António Fernandes Basto. The former Court of Couto gave way to the House of the Monastery.
1853 – The Casa do Mosteiro is destroyed by a fire and immediately rebuilt.
1874 – Casa do Mosteiro is transformed into a guesthouse by the new owner, Alexandre José Fernandes Basto, nephew of João António Fernandes Basto, who inherited it on the death of his uncle, on 24 August 1873.
At the end of the century XIX, the House is remodeled and redecorated and, at the beginning of the century. XX, is inhabited by Júlio José Fernandes Basto, the Baron of Basto, becoming known as the House of the Baron.
1944 – Casa do Barão is sold by the heirs of Baron de Basto to José Gonçalves Ferreira, for the installation of a Female Boarding House.
1970 (early seventies) – The Preparatory School is installed in Casa do Barão.
1990 (1990s) – Casa do Barão is sold to the Municipality of Cabeceiras de Basto, which proceeds with its reconstruction and expansion with the construction of a new building at the back, transforming it into the Municipal House of Culture.
Contains a pole of the Municipal Library and a room for Temporary Exhibitions.
