Crowning the Churchyard of the Cathedral, the imposing church of Misericórdia appears. Built in the 16th century, under the guidance of D. Jorge de Ataíde, Bishop of Viseu, it was renovated in the 18th century, acquiring the Baroque appearance and majesty that it still retains today.
Inside you can discover a magnificent pipe organ from the second half of the 18th century and an oil painting by “Pintor Gata”, a 19th century artist from Vise, representing Nossa Senhora da Misericórdia. This building also houses a museum center with a collection consisting of more than a hundred objects that make known the history and figures that over the centuries embodied one of the oldest institutions in the country.
