Built in iron on masonry pillars, the bridge was inaugurated in 1892 and came to solve an old problem in Constância and neighboring municipalities: the difficulty of crossing the Zêzere, which still had no dams along its course and was very impetuous, especially in the winter. The old crossing barge could then be deactivated.
Due to the constant increase in road traffic, the IP6 (now A23) was opened to traffic in 1995, which required the construction of a new concrete bridge a few hundred meters upstream.
The iron bridge, for its part, would benefit, in 2003/2004, with works to widen the platform and reinforce the structure of the deck and pillars, once again being able to serve local traffic well for many years.
A land where rivers meet, Constância especially values its bridges. Thus, the 1st centenary of this bridge, in 1992, was festively marked and registered on a plaque that was then placed on it.
It has a deck 200 meters long and rises 23 meters above the waters of the river.
