The Jardim-Horto, designed by Arq. Gonçalo Ribeiro Teles, was inaugurated by the President of the Republic, Dr. Mário Soares, in 1990. It brings together all the flora mentioned by Camões in his work, a total of 52 species. Inside, the visitor can also enjoy the Garden of Macau, the Planetarium of Ptolemy in the open-air Auditorium and a tile panel that shows the parts of the world that Camões traveled, from Lisbon to Macau, via Africa and India. The huge armillary sphere, the largest in Portugal, marks the 500th anniversary of the Portuguese Discoveries, which the epic immortalized in Os Lusíadas, and the universalist character of our culture.
