In the place where the first settlement of the city took place in medieval times and where Tarouca Castle is believed to have existed, the Alcácima hill rises, in the historic center of the city. It is a natural park, where you can walk surrounded by vegetation, nature and animals. At the top of the hill there is a lookout point, from where it is possible to observe the city in a privileged way.
About two years ago, the Municipality of Tarouca reclassified the entire space, giving it a new life. In this park there is now a new picnic area, a physical exercise area, a playground, a community garden and new animals.
Nothing remains of the old castle, in its memory there is a pillory and a coat of arms on the ground.
At the moment, the land next to the Alcácima hill is being renovated, which will allow for an expansion of the space.
