Montesinho Natural Park is a protected area located in the Northeast of Trás-os-Montes. It has a dimension of about 75 thousand hectares. Recognized in 1979 as a Natural Park, it currently has 9,000 inhabitants and 92 villages.
When nature calls us to forget the tiredness of the days, Montesinho Natural Park is the perfect destination, with one of the largest protected natural areas in Portugal.
Its rounded hills, the embedded valleys of the Sabor, Maçãs and Baceiro rivers, marshes and holm oak groves and a unique rocky chain, allow, from the top of a rock, to widen the horizon and enlarge the landscape.
The signposted walking trails are also an excellent way to get in touch with this biodiversity and record, in photography, the unforgettable moments
The Montesinho Natural Park concentrates 80% of the mammals in Portugal and has a very rich fauna and a very distinct flora throughout the four seasons of the year.
It becomes an example of biodiversity and preservation of the landscape.
There are a plethora of diversified options ranging from hiking and mountain biking, horseback riding or camping.
During the month of September, it becomes obligatory to listen to the roar of two deer (calling two males for or hunting down) and their locations in groups.
There are 240 species of vertebrates, of which 150 are birds, as well as otters, wolves, deer and roe deer.
