On Rua Formosa we find one of the most emblematic remains of the Roman presence in the city of Viseu. Under glass that arouses the curiosity of passers-by, it is possible to discover a fragment of what would have been an imposing wall built around the year 360.
The Roman wall that surrounded the city had at least 4 gates and was 4m wide and 9m high and had a series of semi-circular turrets. The fortification was built at a time when the city, an important civic capital during Roman times, began to feel pressure from the barbarian invasions from central Europe.
