The Museu da Indústria Têxtil da Bacia do Ave was founded in 1987 as a result of a research project centered on the industrialization of the textile sector in Bacia do Ave.
The Museu da Indústria Têxtil da Bacia do Ave is installed in the former warehouses of the Wool Spinning and Weaving Factory “A Lanifícia do Outeiro”, Lda. Inserted in an area strongly marked by the textile industry, it is the only museum dedicated to this activity existing in the north of the country.
The museological collection consists of a set of machines, instruments and objects representative of various eras and different production processes, belonging to former textile factories installed in the region. Assuming particular emphasis on Looms, Warping Machines, Cinnamon Machines, Calenders, Laminators, Continuous Machines, Coilers, Dynamometers and Scales. These nearly fifty textile machines depict the three main stages of production: spinning, weaving and finishing.
