Housed in a distinguished manor house from the 18th century, the Municipal Museum of Viana do Castelo has one of the most important and valuable collections of ancient Portuguese faience from the 17th to 19th centuries, which includes several pieces from the famous Fábrica de Louça de Viana. In addition to an important collection of paintings, drawings and pieces of sacred art, the fine collection of Indo-Portuguese furniture from the 18th century stands out. In this space, it is also possible to discover a collection of Portuguese and Hispanic-Arabic tiles, unique in its variety and richness.

Installed in an 18th-century building since 1923, the Museum of Decorative Arts in Viana do Castelo has an exceptional collection of decorative arts, donated by the scholar Luís Augusto Oliveira, which includes Indo-Portuguese counters and furniture by D. João V and D. José I. An important part of the Museum’s collection is made up of earthenware collections, namely from the Fábrica de Loiça de Viana, which holds one of the most important collections in the country.
Also worthy of mention are the rooms with tiled ceilings, representing the four continents, hunting scenes and palace life. The Museum also has some paintings on wood from the 16th to the 20th centuries; a lapidary section with more than three dozen pieces, which highlights the core of heraldry classified as Stones of Weapons and a valuable numismatic collection.
