The Museum of Sacred Art Cónego Albano Vaz Pinto is housed in the Church of Santa Maria da Devesa, in the center of Castelo de Vide.
Castelo de Vide has numerous religious temples, including chapels, hermitages and churches, scattered throughout the municipality. Canon Albano Vaz Pinto, showing concern for the safety of the collection of each religious space, decided to collect the most valuable pieces existing in those spaces and deposit them in this museum, thus providing visibility to this rich heritage.
The collection features numerous pieces of great artistic value, including painting, sculpture, religious implements – notably the roca images (sacred images that are intended to be carried in procession and are dressed in fabric costumes) and prominent saints. In terms of chronological beacons, the pieces are located between the 17th and 19th centuries. XIII and XIX.
The two oldest pieces date back to the 16th century. XIII: S. Pedro and Santo Amaro, in sculpture.
