In the second half of the century. In the 19th century, the new central hub of the city began to be defined with the construction of the new Town Hall building, designed by José Matos Cid.
Artistically, it is part of a neoclassical plan marked by sobriety and elegance. The interior features decorative elements executed by different local artists, such as the wrought iron chandelier by Arnaldo Malho and a set of tiles and portraits on the roof by José de Almeida e Silva.
