With a characteristic granite landscape made of rocks generated deep within the Earth, but shaped and exposed by hundreds of millions of years of tectonic movements and climatic periods, the Barrocal is a refreshing oasis of Natural History. Barrocal Park transports visitors to nature with time to be enjoyed
Barrocal rises, unhurriedly, detached and on the sidelines, among the white neighborhoods of the city of Castelo Branco. It was designed to promote Barrocal as a museum of nature, alive, dynamic, interactive, educational and playful.
Born 310 million years ago, almost 30 km deep in the Earth and at a temperature of 750ºC, it could only result in a very special landscape. What makes Barrocal special is that it constitutes a natural piece of the city, with which it evolved, to which it contributed and of which today, more than ever, it is a part.
The history of the Barrocal landscape has been told for millions of years, each of its granitic forms sculpted by each drop of water that infiltrates the rock, in a providential way along the dense network of fractures, transmitting to us a chapter of the stories that we don’t live.
Free entrance.
