Upon entering the Renaissance Garden of the former Episcopal Palace (Fontelo) we return to the 16th century, when many gardens were designed to celebrate Man’s dominion over Nature. Landscape creation with Italian influence, probably driven by D. Miguel da Silva, Bishop of Viseu from 1526 to 1547.
Over the centuries, the most exotic and exuberant garden in Viseu was built. The camellias, the false thuja, the azalea and the olive tree from paradise are plants native to Asia, the magnolia and the pseudosuga from North America, the araucaria from South America, the tree fern, the Oceania.
Choose a granite bench and relax in this beautiful idyllic setting. Observe the bowl and fountain in the center, the small waterfall, the remains of a section of aqueduct and be fascinated by the diversity of shapes, colors and smells.
