Its origin is related to the mysterious appearance of a black earth cross on the muddy ground of Campo da Feira, in December 1504. The current temple opened for worship in 1710 (XVIII). A building with a dome and centered plan with the interior space arranged in a cross Greek, designed by architect João Antunes. Noteworthy are the Baroque gilded wood carving main altar and the altar on the Gospel side, where an image of the Lord of the Cross appears, acquired, according to tradition, in Flanders in 1505.
