Tomb of Fernão Gomes de Góis
Camareiro – major of D. João I

Inside the main chapel of the Church of Oliveira do Conde, there is the tomb of Fernão Gomes de Góis Camareiro – major of D. João I and armed knight in Ceuta. The tomb chest was built by João Afonso Mestre dos Sinos, in 1440, and the recumbent figure of the knight, a female figure and an angelic figure can be found on the lid. At the feet is the dog, as a faithful guardian. The walls of the tomb feature a set of statuary integrated into micro-architectures of ogival niches that include the figure of Christ, the Virgin Mary, the Evangelists and other Church figures on the face.

The tomb is based on four lions, with combed mane and at the base has a granite monoblock. Due to its sculptural richness, it constitutes one of the most important works in the country and was classified as a National Monument, by Decree of June 16, 1910.
